Peasant Room ‘960

It’s like entering Domenico Modugno’s old song from 1960 “In the blue painted blue”, because all the details, the furnishings, the curtains, are the color of the sea and the sky that distinguishes our land, just a few steps from the coast Jonico is so fertile and welcoming. The room has a double bed, bathroom, air conditioning, TV, fridge, panoramic balcony. The history of ‘960 Even in this room the past can already be smelled behind the entrance door, rediscovering itself in the colored checked blankets worked by our grandmothers and tied by hand “tile by tile”, in the colored boxes hung to become towel holders and in many other details. Nothing is left to chance, everything in the room is cared for with a pinch of love and is very reminiscent of the “Capri” style.

Borghese Room ‘950

A beautiful two-tone fluorescent light hangs above the headboard of the bed. The vaulted roof adorned with an ancient chandelier and the furnishings from the 1950s are the characterizing emblem of the room. The tones of yellow ocher are predominant and the lace curtains make the environment elegant and classy. Even in this room it is possible for the guest to go back in time and dive into the Apulian tradition of the early twentieth century: white lacquer bed with hand-decorated decorations, bedside tables with ceramic interiors, “grandmother’s dresser” with large drawers, wardrobe with hand-crafted macramé curtains, Marelli fan, beech wood coat hanger and much more. Beautiful balcony overlooking the central facade. The room is however equipped with all comforts and a small kitchenette to make your stay relaxing and comfortable.

Luminary Suite with Bathtub

Inside the structure it was decided to create a corner dedicated to relaxation and intimacy as a couple. The realization of a dream began with a complete restyling of the Suite. Typical Apulian lights, a miniature sound box, original cement tiles (Apulian decorated tiles) from the early twentieth century have taken the place of the previous furnishings, creating a truly unique and surreal atmosphere. In the center of the room, the high and soft maple wood bed appears triumphant, with an infinite corolla of pillows to make your sleep comfortable and pleasant. On the side, there are Art Nouveau bedside tables and hairdressers, to make everything even more vintage and give the guest a unique and unrepeatable experience. The abajour lights are of different types depending on the atmosphere you intend to create: soft red-purple or bold warm white. In the center of the vault, however, a rose window of single-colour lights appears triumphant to light up the entire Suite and enjoy every single detail. But what makes the room truly special is the environment with the hydromassage tub. Very original floor, exposed frontal mosaic of Apulian tiles with central light suffused by an ancient sieve. Bathtub entry handles also recovered from wooden rods and chairs as towel holders, shelves made with ancient cloth scrubbers and a relaxation bench. The tub, which has luxury two-seater dimensions, offers a diversified hot/cold hydromassage service, chromotherapy and ionotherapy for an absolute moment of well-being dedicated to guests. It is equipped with all the options for perfect use: en-suite bathroom furnished in retro style, with large two-seater shower, air conditioning, central heating, wi-fi, smart TV, mini bar.

The history of ‘940

The bedside tables and bed are the result of painstaking restoration work, as is the "curtain wardrobe" made with recycled wood material and adorned with a macramé lace curtain with an antique flavour. If you then look up you will be fascinated by the exposed vault, completely restored and enhanced by an ancient hand-painted ceramic chandelier. There is no shortage of collector’s items to delight the eyes and mind of those who stay there, such as the ancient “comb” complete with silver brushes and magazines of the time. A delight for whoever will occupy it! Even the bathroom is not without particularities and sui generis comforts, such as the large two-seater shower. The gilded brass shield mirror, the appliques and the pandance chandelier are the result of a search for the ancient like the robe holder made from an antique brass hatbox with curls in relief. The fruit boxes painted white and adorned with lace thus become particular and spacious towel holders, as does the white wrought iron tripod used as a wash basin with basin and tin jug.

Romantic Room ‘930

It is the room located on the mezzanine level of the ancient vault that surrounded the stable below. Its creation is the result of particular architectural and engineering work carried out in order to maintain its original appearance unchanged while giving it added value. The room has two beds (double bed), bathroom, air conditioning, TV, refrigerator, safe.

Set in a triduum of centuries-old arches and vaults, the imposing, completely wooden bed with very high tread and headboard is the central point of the room. It is even more enhanced by the embroidery of the bedspread, enriched with lace and lace and placed on parquet, dating back to the 1930s and later. The remains of the centuries-old vault have been brought back to face, giving life to a large natural shelf on which a palette of bright colors of the flowering fields shows off. Passing through an opening in the vault (you cross the heart of it) you enter the anteroom where on the front wall a weave of leaves and flowers in pastel colors comes to life, enriched with an oval bronze mirror and an Old England style sink. Entering the particular bathroom is the mosaic shower completely created in the ancient vault!! All this gives the room a particular and comfortable intimacy which makes it particularly suitable for romantic evenings and stays of a thousand and one nights.

Holiday House ‘920

It is located in the old "stable" of the house, a place used for the residence of animals and wagons for transporting grain. A large entrance door allowed access, now transformed into a large light point in the kitchen. The house has five beds, including a double bed and two singles located on the mezzanine, kitchen with hob and sofa bed, bathroom, air conditioning, TV, heating system, safe.

The history of ‘920

It is a real dive into the peasant past where as soon as you enter the kitchen you see your grandmother’s ancient cupboard (1920s) where you could breathe in the scent of freshly baked bread preserved in square tea towels; the roof is completely made of light wood where the baskets have become special chandeliers. The plate hanging on the wall was obtained from the horizontal cut of an EPAL platform in which there are old ceramic plates, jugs and cups from the early 1900s when they were used as a “common plate for the whole family”. Going up the stairs to go to the sleeping area, small boxes appear framing the canvases where you can admire glimpses of the historical monuments of Massafra. The bathroom was created on the ancient cistern-well attached to the house (now brought to light: a large tromp-ail has been positioned on the bottom of the same which reproduces the water of the stream), on the ceiling you can see a lantern from the 1990s 20 which acts as a chandelier and a box of old ammunition which becomes a soap dish. Opening the bedroom door you see the pure white of the Flanders blankets and the headboard of the bed made from the portals of a chicken coop set in the wall and completed with an old iron door from the 1920s, they immediately give an idea of what recovery and recycling; this, especially if you look at the desk and bench made from the headboard and footboard of a wrought iron bed called “crstìdd”. On the mezzanine you can see the two single beds adorned with crochet blankets with lace and a small bedside table made from the restoration of an old crate for transporting “Dreher beer”. The color points are given by the wool shawls that grandmothers used to warm during the winter months and which surround a scenario completely suspended in time!!

Holiday Home ‘910

From the scent of the ancient to the whiteness of the walls, the Holiday Home 910 is located in the oldest place of the entire structure. The small veranda (formerly an ancient garden) marks the starting point; from this, in fact, through a wooden staircase that has been there for over 100 years, one accessed a room in the old “alcove” in which the basic necessities were hidden: oil, cured meats, legumes, wheat and so on. in order to avoid paying duty taxes. The house has six beds, including two double beds and a bunk bed, spread over two levels (with mezzanine), an independent kitchen with fridge, a beautiful equipped veranda, private bathroom, air conditioning, TV, heating system and safe.

The history of ‘910

The beds, original in workmanship and creation, are the result of a work of recovery and assembly of EPAL EUR platforms used for various transport, which are placed alongside the old sewing machine from 1910… and where the gaze opens onto a glimpse of the our rural landscape with olive trees and ripe wheat! Just inside the house, an ancient wrought iron overdoor appears on the wall, typical of 19th century doors, which has now become the headboard of the main bed of the house, enriched by two large cushions made with jute bags. The appliquès are made with glass jars covered with raw sack caps, in which legumes from our lands have been placed (white broad beans, beans, lentils etc.) which, when illuminated, give a touch of originality to the room. The kitchen complete with hob with adjoining accessible courtyard (equipped with bench, chairs and table), was made with recycled and treated wood; in the front, the laying of the ancient bricks decorated in cement in pandance with the chandelier made of shells set in wire and colored is evident. The white tin gas cooker and wooden handles take us back to a distant era where it was the heart of the house. Above the shelves on the same floor you can see an ancient plate scale dating back to the years 1910-1915 for weighing pasta and legumes. The slightly revisited “plate rack” is completely unique: made from very ancient agricultural tools (a wooden shovel and a hay fork) intertwined with jute thread and rough twine on which part of the aluminum pots and pans dating back to to those years (pans, ladles, colanders, etc.). You will also be able to find the ancient striped wooden board “stricatùr-rag” which was used to dry clothes, reinvented as a breakfast tray. Everything was enriched by orange curtains made on the models of the time, with ribbons and ties for the closures (when zips were just a hybrid) which underline their simplicity and functionality. In the same holiday home, the bathroom, in addition to being equipped with all comforts, is also the result of an ad hoc renovation. The same represented the ancient passage that led from the bedroom to the kitchen. You can still see the point where the passage narrowed where the shower was built today; here too the theme of peasant simplicity returns with the “wooden boxes for transporting fruit” assembled into particular bathroom furniture, the “rake for unraveling straw” which has become the robe hanger, the ceramic “capasella” the basket waste bin. The towel holder was created by positioning it horizontally on the wall of an old ladder once used by farmers to reach the highest branches of olive trees, shake them and drop the fruit into the net for subsequent harvesting. On the mezzanine, made entirely of wood, there is the double bed, also made with EPAL EUR platforms treated and worn natural, and on which you can touch the ancient vault firsthand; from the center of it unravels a “braid” of rough nets and white linen fabrics that create the canopy. A green light diffuses into the room which comes from the lamps made with large glass “demijohns” which were used to preserve the olives and oil. Adjacent to this, there is a room with a bunk bed assembled in a completely original way with wood and platforms on the sides of which, as a ladder that allows access to the upper bed, an ancient country staircase that served to prune olive trees. Equipped with every comfort and the right privacy for the guests who occupy it, it is a holiday home where the past, memories and peasant traditions are enhanced by noteworthy details and where the furnishings are essentially based on the recovery of recycled materials and ancient objects used for other purposes.
